It has occurred to me that I haven’t posted anything about food lately, so I’m doing this now because I still feel bloated from all the food we ate this evening.
It was supposed to be a “Welcome Dinner” for a new teammate who joined us last….. wait for it…
May, 2019. Lol. We were so busy, we weren’t even able to welcome her properly. She chose the restaurant, and our boss paid for everything! Hurray for free food. Lol.
Banana Leaf has been in the country for quite sometime now (since 2001 said their menu) and this isn’t my first time to try it (first time in this newly opened branch though). Looking in the internet, you would find unfavourable reviews of their other branches – from the failed “fusion” food menu to unfriendly staff. However, their new branch in BGC High Street isn’t as bad as the others. As a matter of fact, we had a pretty great time at Banana Leaf. The crew was nice and friendly; and they even took time to explain the dishes and how we were supposed to eat them.
Here’s a photo of the team prior to devouring our sumptuous dinner (yes, they would give you banana leaves and you’re supposed to eat from there). And here are the photos of what went inside our tummies tonight:
Vietnamese Fresh Spring Rolls – so-so. Not my favourite part of the dinner lol.
Stir Friend Oat Prawns in Singaporean Style – TOO EXPENSIVE. Tasted good, but four of these for almost 600? Nah. Not gonna order it again.
Nasi Goreng – this one was good! Great, even. A bit spicy, but manageable.
Thai Style Fried Rice with Shrimp Paste – liked it too, except for the green peas. There were too many of them.
Deep Fried Pandan Chicken – this one was my favourite part. It was really delicioso haha.
Charcoal Grilled Sliced Pork Steak Thai Style – surprisingly good as well. I didn’t like the spicy sauce, but it was forgivable haha.
Forgot what it was called, but it was supposed to be a shrimp ball with cheese inside? I don’t know. Did not like it that much too.
And then dessert!!!
From the top:
Sago Pudding in Thai Pandan Leaf – can be compared to Maja Blanca.
Pandanus Pancake Roll with Fresh Coconut – too sweet!!
Sticky Rice With Mango – we’ve had better ones. Lol. Not life changing.
Sweet Sago Soup with Coconut Milk – this one was good.
We also had Banana Fritters (wasn’t able to take photos of it), but it was the best one among their desserts.
My rating for this Banana Leaf Branch? 3.5/5
