Why Do I Dayre?
I was reading posts from @bossming and @sgrmse earlier and I realized how lucky I was (well, we all are) for having found a community where there’s so much positivity and happiness and lots of “like”-able stuff without things being shoved into our faces.
I guess, we’ve all been there. Seeing a lot of things in our Facebook/Instagram/Twitter timelines, who went where, what they ate, who are they with, their rants, dramas etc. Suddenly, it all became so tiring. We just want OUT.
But come to think of it, Dayre is almost the same. We have the #Dayrefatties , #OOTDs, #Throwbacks and everything else we could think of. And yet, I look forward to seeing my Dayre feed.
I guess, it’s because this app has been “marketed” to me as a happy place, somewhere not congested with too much drama.
I’d take you back to my first ever Dayre post, a few days after my birthday. It was when I decided that I needed a place where I can be myself, away from the world and everyone else. I only thought of this as it is, an online personal journal. I used to write in journals when I was in high school, a few times when I was in college.
Having found this space made it easy for me to come back and relive the moments, my thoughts, my personal dramas etc.
Initially, I was not aware of a community
that exists here, until @supermavic told me that there were a few Filipinos who are also in the app. She also introduced some Dayreans that I might be interested to follow / check out; and so I did.
I was hesitant at first, because my writing skills weren’t at par with most of them.. And I’m scared to be judged. And boy, I was wrong. The Dayre community is very welcoming. They don’t judge at all, differences in opinions (a rarity) are handled with politeness;
and it’s like I was suddenly in a new world where everyone is a friend.
This is exactly where I wanted my thoughts and memories to be. Aside from keeping an online diary, I get to see people from different sides of the world and feel close to them through their own posts. It is indeed worth more than a hundred Facebook likes.
Social Media Cleanse
I mentioned about the negativities that other social media platforms bring. Maybe it’s the fact that I personally know these people that I hate seeing drama? Or maybe it’s because sometimes, I see a lot of humblebragging and fishing (for compliments) that I need to just close the app and go somewhere else.
Sometimes, I also find myself guilty of that. Believe it or not, my facebook has almost 300 photo albums.
And one of them is entitled 365 Selfies – I took a photo of myself for 365 days. Yes. I could be that vain.
But I grew tired of it all. It felt so superficial. That’s why, I hid all those albums from the world. I believe there are only about 20 viewable by friends, all else are set to private.
Sometimes I think about deleting those accounts.. But in a way, I think of them as reminders of how my twenties life was. Or maybe a life before Dayre (since I’m 30 now)
I have unfollowed and blocked people, removed some unwanted memories… It is a continuous process, I’m guessing? But somehow, I do not feel the need to check on them every now and then.
That brings me to..
Reasons why I think Dayre is special
Aside from it being too personal – what, I have posted about HIV Tests, disagreements with my mom over money, some food photos (to remember the good times), chronicling the best days of my life so far – there are also some other reasons why I love it here… And maybe in the next days or years, I will just have to come up with a lot more:
1) it’s convenient. I can just post whatever is happening or whatever I’m feeling right here right now
2) the stickers. I love them…
3) The connection with the community is just so amazing.. I mean, everytime I open the app, I don’t get excited to check my notifications and see who liked my posts.
I get thrilled to see

There’s a beautiful world here in Dayre. And I’m just so thankful I became a part of it. 😊
